“You know more than you are letting on.” The Prophet tensed slightly as he heard the soft voice of the Kid coming from behind. “I can see it in your eyes, you know a great truth.”
“Yes.” He sighs as he removes his mask revealing his true voice for the first time; he speaks with authority in an incredibly soothing tone. “A great truth which will affect us all, Gallifrey falls today.”
The Kid tries to speak but can form no words.
“Does it disturb you to know that our species will be no more after the events of this day have been played out?” His tone does not change; he could just as easily be discussing the weather as the genocide of his own kind.
“Is there anything we can do?” The Kid finds herself suddenly short of breath; her heartbeat is pounding in her ears.
“There is not, Time has made her decision. Today we pay the price for our arrogance. Time shared her gifts with us and look how we abused them.” A tear begins to form in his eye. “She has made her decision, and that is: No More!”
“From the beginning to the end, Time is constant, Time will cleanse.” The Kid spoke without thought, reciting from memory.
“They are keen to teach that in the Academy.” His voice shifts tone momentarily before continuing as normal. “Yet they assume Lordship over her, abuse her gifts. She has chosen to cleanse us, that is her right, we should accept that?”
“Are you suggesting that we give up the fight?”
“The Daleks will not see another day either; their fate is intertwined with ours.” He sighs again. “We go out fighting.”
“How do you expect me to motivate a group of men who may well have just lost their leader.” She places her head in her hands. “I am not cut out for this.”
“Oh but you are.” He pauses, “Time has a plan for you my child, and there are some things so important that even I cannot see.”
